Giving it YOUR ALL

Tonight I just feel like writing to be honest. I feel like some things are better when they are true feelings that someone needs to convey. Right now I feel like I am lost and I need to redirect my life in ways that will complete my present and prepare my future. That is why giving life my all means the world to me.

Have you ever felt that disconnection with your faith? Felt unsure about your current situation? Or even felt like the future you planned for yourself is nothing you’ve ever imagined! That is how I have been feeling lately.  I found that I need some guidance and a mentor even though I am a role model to so many people in the community. This is why I feel the way I do even though I am Miss Black Indiana USA 2011 and a leader to so many, I can still feel lost. This is alright! I am happy because no one is perfect this is just another lesson on life.

Instead of feeling down about something why not put your all into life? Into the lord, family, myself and friends. My motivation or words of encouragement to myself and anyone in this same situation when you want the perfect outcome of life you can Give it your all and it will work in your favor!

National Pageant Experience

Over a month ago I was at the Miss Black USA national pageant in Washington DC. With 28 Queens competing the experience was beyond my expectations. I learned so much about myself as well as what I needed to improve to better my future.  This was my experience….

Upon arrival I met Miss Black California USA 2011, she was very sweet and we both were excited to make it to our hotel to meet everyone. I have nothing but great things to say about how amazing my stay was at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City Hotel. Every single “sister queen” was unique in every way. It seemed as if we all had admirable goals and knew own to achieve them. Each of my sisters is phenomenal to say the least. Each of them had creative ideas within them that will change the world.

Once the pageant was over I did not feel as if I did not accomplish my intentions of being in this pageant. What I took away from this experience was the responsibility of a young woman that can achieve anything she puts her mind to. Even if we are faced with adversity “its not what happens to us but its how we respond” (Ms. Karen, Founder) these words remind me of all the ways I may have acted in the past and now I am a knew person, rejuvenated and ready for the world.

I enjoyed every part of my journey and congratulate Ocielia Gibson on becoming Miss Black USA 2011. I am so proud of all of her accomplishments and wish her a great year.

This experience will be in my heart forever!

Thank you,

15th Annual Sickle Cell Walk

The 15th annual Sickle Cell walk June 25th turned out to be a great achievement. I wanted to thank everyone that showed his or her support to this cause, it means the world to me.

Many people don’t know that Sickle Cell Anemia is my platform for nationals and even more than that my life. I will always make sure that even if it’s the last thing I do I will make a difference in this world. My first step is to help sickle cell patients.

The Martin Center in Indianapolis is helpful to me because they are the only central Indiana volunteer based community that helps assist families that are faced with Sickle Cell disease. I love this center myself and if you are looking for volunteer opportunities it would be a great to witness the change we want to see in our future.  Visit TheMartinCenter.org to find all the opportunities coming up.

Love, support and guidance are all the things that represent the center and their famous Sickle Cell walk is growing each year.

Thank you Martin Center for all you have done for you and my family and friends.  It’s always a blessing to be recognized for the great things people perform. I am delighted to know that my voice was heard and transformation is to come.

Indy Style meets Miss Black Indiana USA 2011

It’s incredible that I started writing this blog over 8 months ago and now I am only 7 weeks out from the national pageant. After being on Indy style this past week on WISH TV channel 8 I felt like I was becoming Miss Black USA. I felt like that was my position and I just wanted to change the world.

I sat down for my interview with one thing on my mind change. I will be the change that I want to see in the world. The first step is to envision my short-term goals and get ready for the pageant. I need to gain the knowledge to be able to do anything and prepare myself for whatever happens in life.

The reason I am tying this together with my interview is because you never know what is going to be thrown your way or what question they are going to ask you just have to be ready for anything. I sat down at Indy Style and I did not know what he was going to ask me, I just mentally prepared myself for anything and to handle this with the best of my abilities.

“Be the change you want to see in the world” Mahatma Gandhi

No matter what you are faced with remember that your goals are always awaiting you and nothing can bring you down from that.

Sky is the Limit

I respect people that love to support the art, the craft of those up and coming. I went to a concert yesterday seeing Eric Benet and Tank perform. It was so nice to know that people still understand the art of music. The audience was so into the actual words and they did nothing but sit there screaming and crying once a person touched them with their craft.

This experience just amazed me because I too, want to have that impact on people’s lives. I want to inspire people to feel complete within their skin and to be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I was that person one day that did not see this light so I knew that once I got through and made it to the finish line I would feel complete.

This is how I felt at this concert. I was sitting there listening to these artists tell their stories of how they got to this point in their careers. It took hard work, facing adversity, and many setbacks to be able to have a testimony.  It amazes me how I take every situation I am in to see the positive outlook on life. I by no means am a negative person anyways but even in the most simple of situations like a concert I find the deeper message.

Leaving this concert I felt like I could do anything and dream bigger than I ever have before. Because with a little courage, determination and compassion you can achieve any goal you want to know the sky is limit.

Dream, achieve, succeed

Surrounding Myself with Success

Tomorrow I am going to help the Indianapolis Black Expo Pageant Queens get ready for their upcoming big day. I feel like it is always nice to have a person that can lead you in the right direction when you do not see a direct path. Sometimes it is the experience in itself that molds the person to be who they are today. As Miss Black Indiana USA 2011 you meet people everyday that are either with you and hope for your everlasting success or those that are with you for their own success.

This is what makes a person great and lives up to their fullest potential. I have learn on a daily basis the people that are truly behind me every step of the way and those that are only in my life to benefit themselves in some way. It is my goal to be myself through any situation. With all I have been through I am blessed to be where I am today and I am elated of each positive influence that I have come in contact with.

Now I am still revolving myself around successful people that believe in me but people that have maturated into healthy living and professional relationships. These are the kind of people that influence my life and that portray positivity. Once I feel that the relationship is not worthy or it will never expand I Let Go and Let God.

Words of Encouragement Surround yourself with people that are uplifting and successful, this will only motivate and inspire you to do the same.

Best Wishes,

Demitrea Kelley

Living on a Promise

To live on a promise is a way to know where to go, when and how to seek this path. This is a great outlook on life. I have been wondering why I have experienced some of the things I have experienced. But I know that to get to where I have to go I will not take a direct path, I have to take the necessary twists and turns to be able to reach my destination.

The reason that this is on my mind this week is because I was looking for those I trust to support me in my journey through life and as Miss Black Indiana USA 2011. Sometimes when friends, family or associates leave our life it is our growing process and it helps us get to the next level. This is why it is important to live on a promise and to trust God.

I move and travel all over the world. I have visited Italy, Spain, France and Germany as well as visited the major cities in the United States. This is one of the journeys that have guided me to where I am now. The important lesson on this topic is that no matter where you go, you cannot let anyone block you from your blessings. People that you may love care about or just met may be the person that could block you from your path of life.

I learned that it is necessary to take out the people or things that are blockage in your life. As long as you believe and have faith in all you do the promises of life will come. It may take some trials and tribulations but you will get there with all the lessons that you needed to learn in life.

Be willing to learn, experience and grow.

"Race for the Cure" Breast Cancer Awareness 2011

The 20th Anniversary for Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is coming up this week on April 16, 2011. It is a great event that I want to make sure to show my support for. Breast Cancer affects my family a great deal because my grandmother whom is the rock of our family has lived with it and just recently was able to say that she is Cancer free. My grandmother never knew that this could have happened to her but it has changed her life and mine.

Breast Cancer is a malignant tumor that has developed from cells in the breast. It comes with age, 90% of the cases are from genetic abnormalities that develop overtime. Breast Cancer affects 1 in 8 women in America and next to Lung Cancer it is a leading cause of a cancerous death.

Let us all come together to support, raise awareness, share stories and help us find a cure. Indianapolis Be A Part of Something Life Changing.

“Race for the Cure” 5K Walk/Run April 16, 2011 at IUPUI Library 700 block West New York Street. Registration begins at 7:00am and the walk starts at 9:00am after the ceremony and the parade. I wanted to make sure that we have all the support we need Indiana, I support and my heart goes out to all of the survivors and families that have been affected by Breast Cancer.

See you Saturday!
I appreciate all the support,

Women's Empowerment Event March 5, 2011

Women's Empowerment Event was a great Success. I loved every second of it from the interviews, photos, compliments and just the overall support Indiana has given me. Inspirational is one word that summarizes how I felt about the series. It went as planned. I started my day with Makeup by Sparkle and hair by Dorothy of Divine Designs hair studio. Completed footage with my videographer, took photos and met lots of wonderful women professionals. Some of those in Attendance Iyanla Vanzant famous author, Wess Morgan, Cathy Holloway Hill and Larenz Tate. Humbling to say the least that I was around so many motivational people. This event was concluded by a beautiful concert with Chrisette Michele, whose voice is angelic.

~Purpose~

First, I would like to say that I am sorry that I haven't posted anything in a while. I do however want to express some feelings that I am having while watching "Keeping The Faith" BET celebration of gospel. I felt inspired more today than I do any other day. I learned that our PURPOSE means "reasons for achievement". Agreeing with this statement because beyond just having an idea there is a compassion for accomplishment. Here are some reasons of PURPOSE:
It Motivates
It Inspires
It Empowers

Revolving my life around these principles will guarantee success. Not only being and influence on others but letting these ideas captivate YOU.

Until next time live with purpose.

Lastly, I wanted to say thank you for supporting all my words of encouragement or inspiration. Words cannot express my appreciation!

thank you,

Red Dress Photo Shoot in Washington DC

During Martin Luther King Jr. weekend January 15-January 17, I traveled to Washington DC for the Miss Black USA 2011 Red Dress Photo shoot. It was such an exciting experience to visit DC because it was my first time and I wanted to experience all the wonderful monuments that our Nation's capitol had to offer. This was my journey:

The best feeling was to flying into the city at night to a beautiful arrangement of lights. I gazed out of the plane window ready to single out the white house and pentagon as well as all the other famous monuments of this fabulous city. Once I landed Miss Black Indiana USA 2011 felt all the emotions you could imagine estatic to meet her pageant sister queens, Miss Black USA 2010 and my national directors.

Once I arrived to the hotel I had butterflies of anxiety and was ready to FINALLY meet everyone. I met my roommate along with 10 other states during the photo shoot, it was amazing to be around so many talented, beautiful and inspirational young women.

The Red Dress Photo Shoot is a way for the delegates to bring awareness to heart disease month in February. Miss Black USA organization is in partnership with The Heart Truth Campaign and it was my pleasure to be involved with such a great event. I loved every moment and I cannot wait to publish my professional photos which will be on the Miss Black USA website for Indiana.

I will update you soon on future events and travels
have a blessed week!
